Roy Munson (Harrelson) is an embittered ex-bowling champ with a rubber hand, whose career has been blighted by a fellow bowler, Ernie McCracken (Murray). His chance for redemption comes in the form of Ishmael Boorg (Quaid), a potential ace. The time for the annual championships rolls around and the stage is set for some hilarious bowling action.
