When the league pitched its sports series "Monday Night Football" to three television networks, only ABC gave it a second look. It was up to Roone Arledge (Heard) to make it an unprecedented sports phenomenon. Putting a ragtag team of sports announcers together, they kick off to a bad start, but his team soon discovers a chemistry that builds to a crowd-pleasing crescendo. When Frank Gilford (Anderson) joins the group, the show goes through the ratings roof and they become sports gods who are worshipped more than the game itself. Eventually, their egos grow to the size of melons, nerves get frayed and they go their separate ways, but not without leaving "Monday Night Football" to end off on a high note.
