A star-studded extravaganza, this motion picture epic is directed by the legendary Stanley Kubrick. A slave-turned-gladiator, Spartacus leads other slaves in a rebellion against the Roman Empire. The slave revolt becomes a deciding factor in the power struggle between two senators: the republican Gracchus and the militarist Crassus. Each of them sees the fortunes of the rebellion as leading to either his own rise to power, or a humiliating defeat. As the two statesmen attempt to aid, hinder and manipulate the rebels for their own benefit, Spartacus and his followers press on toward freedom.
