Michael Collins (Neeson) is an Irish Republican Army member. Together with his band of loyal followers, he fights the British empire to a standstill with the signing of a treaty that will establish Ireland as a free state. Unfortunately, he's faced with tremendous opposition from the Irish President Eamon De Valera (Rickman), whose refusal to support the treaty and decision to boycott the talks leads to a series of tragic events.
